GeoKids

What Is GeoKids?

GeoKids is outdoors, educational, and fun!
GeoKids is a Chapel Hill and Carrboro, NC organization that uses geocaching - an outdoor game in which participants use GPS technology to find hidden treasures – to get middle school kids excited about the great outdoors.

Over the summer, we run sessions to prepare students for geocaching by teaching them how to use the GPS and by explaining how the GPS works, as well as basic map-reading and navigation skills. Several times a week, the students go on geocaching adventure trips where they apply what they have learned out in nature. We plan to conduct similar outings during weekends in the school year.

The week of June 27th, 2011, GeoKids worked with students at the Rogers-Eubanks Neighborhood Association (RENA) Summer Program in Chapel Hill. RENA is a great organization that provides services to children in the area. To learn more, please visit rogersroad.wordpress.com

Starting July 5th, 2011, GeoKids ran the same curriculum with kids at the Human Rights Center (HRC). HRC is a community organization that serves children in Carrboro's Abbey Court apartment complex. You can find out more about HRC at www.humanrightscities.org.
